When conference foes start taking each other on, as fans we can see what teams are contenders and what teams feasted on non-conference cupcakes. Through the first two-to-three (in most conferences) weekends of conference play we’re starting to see some separation. Per usual in college football, no team is invincible and we saw that first hand last week as #1 went down.

In the Big Ten this weekend, three key games will help everyone sort out the conference pecking order. How big are MSU’s victories over Wisconsin and Michigan? Will newly anointed #1 OSU make a statment on the road? Will the Hawkeyes get a road win, or can Denard Robinson rebound after a loss?

Thursday Pick: Nebraska @ Kansas State

Spread: Nebraska -11 @ Kansas State
Moneyline: NU -420/KSU +340
Over/Under: 50.5
This means Vegas sees a 31-19 win for the Cornhuskers
The Pick: Nebraska -11

The easy way out for me would be to recommend betting Nebraska on the moneyline because the Cornhuskers are going to win this football game… but that’s no fun, now is it.

Big Ten Division Balance

This past summer was full of conspiracy theorists and expansion rumors for the BCS conferences. Eventually, even the smaller conferences got into the game. Big Ten commissioner, Jim Delaney, really had a chance to flex the conferences’ muscle. The second he said the Big Ten would look into expansion, everyone else in the college football world reacted. At the end of the summer, Delaney assembled the conference Athletic Directors to determine divisions for the Big Ten, so they could have a championship game (as expected).

After weeks of squabbling, here is what how the conference broke in two, taking into consideration, balance, rivalries and geography:

After hitting our Thursday night pick by the skin of our teeth,  T&C took a loss on the Saturday Northwestern pick. Give credit to Minnesota, they played out of their minds to keep it close. Can’t win ‘em all…
