The Lines:
Spread: Northwestern -3 @ Indiana
Over/Under: 58.5
The Pick: Northwestern -3
After a tough loss at the hands of the #5 team in the country, Northwestern will be out for revenge as they visit Bloomington. Actually, the Wildcats rattled off five wins to start the season and have dropped two consecutive games – Purdue and Michigan State. Lucky for the ‘Cats, Indiana is just the team to get them back on track…
Indiana is 4-3, though two of their four wins are against FCS opponents. The Hoosier defense has been gashed by Michigan, Ohio State and Illinois. I don’t think Indiana is going to win a Big Ten game this season.
This is game will be a battle of quarterbacks: Northwestern’s Dan Persa and Indiana’s Ben Chappell. Persa already has 2,000 total yards this season and Leads his team in passing and rushing. Chappell is actually 6th in the nation in passing yards, well over the 2,000 mark for the season.
The big difference in this game will be Northwestern’s defense, which held Michigan State’s rushing attack in check last weekend. They look to have found a groove after a rough start to the Big Ten season, a close game against Minnesota and a loss to Purdue. The Wildcats have proven they play to the level of their competition at times, but I think coach Pat Fitzgerald will have them ready to go and battling for bowl eligibility this weekend.
Give up the 3 points and take the Wildcats on the road.
