Arizona State +3 @ Cal
ML – ASU +135/Cal -155
The Pick : ASU +135
Cal is trying to bounce back from taking a pounding last week at USC and Arizona State is fresh off a road trip to Seattle, where they were able to handle Jake Locker and the Washington Huskies. Don’t let the 3-3 records of these teams fool you, these are both strong football teams.
Despite leadership from senior quaterback Kevin Riley the Golden Bears have struggled this season. Their wins come against UC Davis, Colorado and UCLA. The defense has been average – not like the Jeff Tedford defenses of a few years ago. One concern I have for Cal is shifty running back, Shane Vereen, was roughed up in Los Angeles last week, only getting 10 carries.
The Sun Devils make the trip up to Berkley with a highly rated offense led by Michigan transfer quarterback Steven Threet. Coach Dennis Erickson’s squad’s three losses on the year came to #5 Oregon, #11 Wisconsin and a good Oregon State team on the road. In addition to the good season they are having on the offensive side of the ball, their defense has proven to be serviceable as well – they performed well in Madison and held Oregon’s offense to its lowest point total of the season (42… I’m not sure if that is an accomplishment or not).
Either way, don’t worry about the points – take the Sun Devils to win straight up.
